Drink Whisky Straight or Neat

When you drink whisky, try resisting the urge to instantly toss ice into it. Although most whiskys are greatly enhanced by ice, yet you will be doing yourself a great favour if you at least drink Rye Whisky or any other whisky neat. Tardie recommends drinking whisky neat, most especially for those who love the taste of alcohol. He considers his whisky as a single-ingredient cocktail.

If you don’t want to drink your whisky neat, then it’s totally fine. But if you want to have a warm hug experience, you could try adding a little water.

Adding Water to Whisky

If you are starting to drink whisky, then you might get surprised at the idea of adding a few drops of water into your whisky. Can a drop of water make any difference? According to Tardie, adding a little water can be a great thing. It allows the release of hydrophobic elements in the glass so that you can enjoy more aromatics. Reducing the alcohol content can let you taste more of its flavours. The easiest way to do this is to use a straw. Just add some drops of water and give it a swirl. Then, take a sip and repeat the process until you can find the delightful flavour you are looking for. The more drops of water you add, the more diluted your whisky will be. It is just the same as adding ice but without the chilling effect.

It sounds so cool to order whisky on the rocks. However, this might not be what you want after all. Tardie revealed that ice would numb your palate and make the flavour dull. But if you like to have a cold glass of whisky, then go for it.
